47 Castle Street

At one time Duns had 12 non-parochial schools in Duns, two of which can be found at 47 and 68 Castle Street. No. 47 is a simple looking building in which the ground floor is some distance above the street level. Before the days of state education, those who could afford it sent their children to these schools.

The buildings of Castle Street date from the early 19th century but could incorporate earlier fabric as title deeds exist dating back to the 1600s for at least one of the properties.
