Whip and Saddle
Just around the corner in the Market Square is the Whip and Saddle pub (formerly the Royal Bar), which is now closed. This simple building on the corner with Castle Street has a bellcast piended roof.
(Bellcast describes the slight turn-up at the base of the slate roof and piended, or peended, refers to the way the roof has sloping rather than gable ends.)
At the ground floor, the corner was chamfered to allow the horse drawn vehicles easier access.
